Stuttgart, Signals, and a Little Bit of Kaiserschmarrn

Once again, the openDAQ team returned to Messe Stuttgart to meet the automotive testing community, reconnect with old friends, make new ones, and talk about where openDAQ is heading next.

This year felt especially important. Not because everything changed overnight, but because more and more conversations started from a different place. Less “What is openDAQ?” and more “How could we use it?” An excellent sign.

What Was New This Year

At ATE 2026, we highlighted several recent and upcoming developments that make openDAQ more useful in real engineering environments.

RTMaps Support

RTMaps support from Intempora is especially exciting because it brings openDAQ into a real-time multisensor development and execution environment already used in advanced testing workflows.

By adding the openDAQ package, RTMaps users can connect to compatible devices and acquire data through the openDAQ interface.

MQTT Support

MQTT support opens the door to more flexible data exchange through existing infrastructure.

This is an important step for openDAQ-based systems that need to exchange data in distributed environments or connect to existing MQTT-based workflows.

Raspberry Pi Reference Implementation

Our Raspberry Pi reference implementation gives developers a more accessible starting point for learning, prototyping, and experimenting with device-side integration.

It provides an affordable platform for exploring how openDAQ can run closer to the device and how developers can build their own openDAQ-compatible implementations.

AI-Assisted Development

We also talked about the role of AI-assisted development.

Because openDAQ is open source and publicly documented, it is a strong candidate for AI-supported workflows. We are already experimenting with ways to help developers create applications, function blocks, and eventually device integrations faster, supported by better documentation and curated technical context.

LabVIEW Driver

And maybe the most exciting addition is our LabVIEW driver.

It will enable LabVIEW users to connect to, configure, and stream data from any openDAQ-compatible device, all from one of the most familiar environments in test and measurement.

Workshop Interest Is Growing

One topic came up again and again: hands-on learning.

That is why we also talked a lot about the openDAQ workshop we plan to start organizing this autumn. The idea is to give developers practical experience with openDAQ: integrating a device, using the API, building an application, and creating custom signal-processing function blocks.

The feedback in Stuttgart confirmed that this is needed. Good architecture matters, but adoption depends on clear examples, reference implementations, documentation, and guided first steps. The workshop is one way we want to make openDAQ easier to understand and easier to use in real projects.

Friends, Partners, and the Automotive Testing Community

First and foremost, ATE is about people.

We reconnected with many familiar faces from previous years, caught up with old friends, and started plenty of new conversations — many of them over our now already famous Kaiserschmarrn, freshly prepared by our equally famous chef Dejan.

We also joined the traditional Dewesoft party and attended the key account dinner at the Mercedes-Benz Museum. And yes: if you are visiting Stuttgart and have even a small interest in history, engineering, or machinery, the museum deserves a place on your bucket list.

Events like this are valuable because they make the industry’s direction visible. Automotive testing is becoming more complex, more software-defined, and more connected. That makes interoperability less of a nice-to-have and more of a practical necessity.

The openDAQ Momentum

What we took home from Stuttgart is encouraging.

People are no longer only interested in the idea of an open interface for test and measurement. They are starting to ask how it can fit into their devices, their software, their workflows, and their business models.

So thank you to everyone who visited us, asked questions, challenged our assumptions, shared use cases, or simply stopped by to say hello.

We are leaving Stuttgart with new ideas, new contacts, and even more motivation to keep building an open, interoperable foundation for test and measurement.
