openDAQ has successfully conducted a demo showcasing the functionality of its ASAM CMP module. ASAM Capture Module Protocol (CMP) is an industry-standard protocol for exchanging measurement data in automotive testing environments. It enables seamless integration of various data sources, enhancing data handling and real-time analysis.

In this example setup, ECUs (Electronic Control Units) generate data and transmit it to capture modules. The capture modules then forward the data to data sinks, such as loggers or analysis tools, where it can be stored or processed.

The demo illustrated openDAQ’s ability to receive and decode ASAM CMP messages. Intrepid’s neoVI FIRE 3 played a crucial role in the demo, acting as a capture module in the ASAM CMP schema.

During the demonstration, CAN and CAN FD messages were generated by the PCAN-View software and sent to the neoVI FIRE 3 device. The neoVI FIRE 3 device transmitted those messages to a connected PC using the ASAM CMP protocol. On the connected PC, openDAQ was used to decode ASAM CMP messages and display their payload—the CAN and CAN FD messages generated by the PCAN-View software.

The demonstration showcased openDAQ’s ability to act as a data sink in the ASAM CMP schema. It also revealed its potential to streamline data communication and enhance interoperability in automotive test and measurement environments.

Special thanks to Intrepid for their invaluable cooperation in enabling this progress. Their neoVI FIRE 3 device communicated seamlessly with openDAQ.

See the demo in action at the Automotive Testing Expo in Novi, Michigan

This demonstration is just the beginning of openDAQ’s capabilities with ASAM CMP. From the 22nd to the 24th of October, we’ll be showcasing this demo live at the Automotive Testing Expo (ATE) in Novi, Michigan. But there’s more: we’re excited to expand the demo by featuring openDAQ’s ability to stream and receive ASAM CMP analog data. The overall demo topology is illustrated in the figure below.

In this extended demonstration, openDAQ will act as a capture module on a second PC (top right),  acquiring measurement data from Dewesoft, HBK and other DAQ devices. The data, transmitted as an analog signal, will be interpreted by openDAQ on the first PC (top left) —the same one displaying CAN data from the neoVI FIRE 3 device.

Overall, the new features represent an important milestone in integrating advanced automotive technologies, reflecting openDAQ's commitment to enhancing data interoperability across automotive systems.
